Dr. Simon Evans

Dr. Simon Evans holds a PhD in molecular biology with 15 years research and teaching experience in neuroscience and a current faculty position in the Psychiatry Department at the University of Michigan. He is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, the American Society for Nutrition and the Michigan Metabolomics and Obesity Center; with expertise in neurochemistry and nutrition. He is the author of dozens of scientific publications on stress, depression and brain function as well as the public book, Brain Fitness, published in the Spring of 2007.

Dr. Evans also holds a national coaching license from the United States Soccer Federation and over two decades coaching experience, which enables him to help people find and use their full potential. 

Dr. Evans has merged his interests in brain function, health and performance coaching in public seminars and workshops designed to educate audiences about brain health and motivate them to take action to achieve it.

Dr. Simon Evans brings scientific credibility, public communication skills, a passion for empowering people and an attitude of persistence to the BrainFit for Life project.

 

 Dr. Paul Burghardt

Dr. Paul Burghardt earned a MS in exercise physiology and a PhD in biomedical science and has a decade of research experience investigating how physical activity alters behavior and neurobiology.  He currently holds positions in the Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience Institute and the department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, both at the University of Michigan.

Dr. Burghardt is a member of the Society for Neuroscience, the International Behavioral Neuroscience Society, the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, and the Michigan Metabolomics and Obesity Center. He has authored several scientific publications on the behavioral, neurochemical, and physiological responses related to exercise and the behavioral responses to pharmacological compounds.

Dr. Burghardt has experience in clinical exercise research settings with projects that investigated the effect of nutritional supplements on physical and mental performance in athletes, and clinical rehabilitation experience in hospital-based phase-II cardiac rehabilitation programs.  He has also coached junior judo competitors at national tournaments, helped individuals as a personal trainer, and taught collegiate physiology and statistics courses.

Dr. Paul Burghardt brings experience in the biology of exercise with a keen ability for assessing and improving physical and mental performance in individuals at various stages of life to the BrainFit for Life venture.
